The Stop and Listen

high-energy old-time from the midwest

From Madison, Wisconsin, The Stop and Listen delivers high-energy old-time music rooted in a deep traditional repertoire and shaped by an expanded sonic palette. Fiddle tunes, jug band songs, country blues, and stringband standards with tight ensemble interplay, driving rhythm, and close harmony singing.

Fronted by extraordinary cellist and fiddler Daniel Plane and harmonica virtuoso Calvin Woodring, the band brings uncommon texture to traditional music. Adam Helt-Baldwin anchors the sound on bass, guitar, and harmony vocals, while Mike Tiboris drives the rhythm on clawhammer, three-finger, and tenor banjo. The result is both grounded and fresh.

Equally at home on festival stages, in dance halls, and in intimate listening rooms, The Stop and Listen has recently appeared at Le Fête de Marquette, White Oak Folk Festival, The Bur Oak, The Harmony Bar, and other regional venues.
